# Motivations for an open-source standard

The Livetree EIP open-source standard protocol enables users the ability to switch to different providers, such as, a different network other than Livetree via their own self-custodial wallet. This empowers users and provides a new level of control over their relationship with their fans, creative works and extends the earning capabilities (“royalties”) of their works to be extended across potentially multiple networks, as royalties for social posts can be accumulated from multiple websites into the same decentralized collective’s Treasury.
